Hello and welcome to JLH Accounting Services!  Let me tell you a little bit about the winding road that led me here.

My career really began while I was in college working as a teller for a local bank.  I loved, loved, loved being a teller.  It was so much fun getting to know the customers, balancing my cash drawer, and helping out the loan and proof staff.  When I graduated with a degree in Finance, my original plan was to continue in the banking world.  I held roles in  loan operations, credit analysis, and bank compliance consulting.  I learned so much about business and personal finance in these roles.  But I heard the siren call of public tax calling my name and worked for a few years in the tax department of a large CPA firm.

I felt like I had found my calling, but family life had different plans.  While working for this CPA firm, I started a family and studied for and received my CPA license.  It was a lot(!), so I transitioned into internal auditing for a few years.  After family life settled down a bit, I moved back into public tax at a small CPA firm.  It was a perfect fit.  I was able to do tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and nonprofits.  But most importantly, the firm had a thriving bookkeeping practice that I immediately fell in love with.

I love the challenge of cleaning up a client's books.  To me, it's like doing a 2,000 piece puzzle where all the puzzle pieces are in a jumble, and then suddenly the pieces start falling into place

and I can see the full picture.  I love getting a bank reconciliation to zero, accounts receivable to what is actually outstanding, and all expenses coded correctly.  When all of these tasks are complete, the financial statements look like a masterpiece!  Then, I can start doing the fun part of advising clients on what is working and what is not.

I was once told by a recruiter at a CPA firm that my career has been varied and interesting.  At the time, it didn't feel like a compliment, but now I choose to see the winding road of my career as a positive.  The knowledge I have gained in all areas of business translates into better accounting and advisory services for my clients.  I am truly excited to start this new venture and to work with some wonderful people.
